-1

This is the other song I created before the project technically starts, just to guage how feasible the project is. It's quite feasible.

Vocals are clearer in this track, and I'm happier with how this one sounds compare to -2.

In terms of structure: all I did was start with a chorus, and then build it back up piece by piece. I like how adding drums to it a bit later in the song sounded.

I'd like to experiment more with having different structures in the same song (ie, instead of the same chorus for the entire song, slip in a bridge or something that sounds different, then return to the main tune; I don't know how much room I'll have to play with that in a minute-long format, but I will try).

"I'm going overboard
I'm going underground
I feel like swimming where
I will never be found

I'm going overboard
I'm going underground
I feel like swimming where
I cannot be found"

This is called "-2" because it's one of two songs I did before the project started. Right away, I can already tell that the vocals sound way too quiet compared to the music, and that's something I'll be needing to watch out for.

"I walked countless miles
to get in this room
And what happens now
will be forgotten soon"

(should probably be 'won't be,' but I just wanted to try how the line worked counter to expectations)

About 52 Weeks

Greetings! This blog is where I will post new songs and welcome criticism. I don't care if you think a song sounds great or sucks; I'd just really prefer to know what worked, what didn't, what I could have tried instead, what I should try in the future, etc. Pretend you're a big-shot producer or something. I promise I won't argue with any comment you make (unless it's about something non-related to the song, in which case, you're fair game).

My goal: to post a song a week, roughly a minute long. Exceptions will be made to post longer songs if I happen to be on a roll or something.

My intention: to improve as a songwriter. I'd like to use this as a means of experimenting, trying new things out, but overall, actually creating something. When my schedule gets too busy, I'll be lucky to post something that sounds like a rough demo, or maybe just a short loop going over and over. But my main goal is to work on song structure, effects, etc.

By the time I'm done, I want to have enough experience that I should be able to write and record a good, decent-sounding full-length song, in very little time. I've recorded an album's worth of songs before, but it's taken me too long to do, which is probably why I put things off for so long. I have several albums' worth of songs I'd like to record, but would rather wait until this project is finished and apply the experience I'll gain to that process.

In terms of quality: I'd just prefer to leave any mistakes in here, to serve as examples of what to avoid in the future.

The music I make here may sound exactly like Kitty Smack, or The Gones, but it counts as neither. These songs are all just sketches, free to be whatever they want.

For far too long, I've been putting off doing anything creative, and that stops now.
